Day 01: Arrive in Leh.

Arrival in Leh:

After your arrival in Leh by 12 PM, the whole day is kept on rest and acclimatization as your body will take time to adjust to the high altitude. Later on, you can take time to see the local market of Leh, which is so vibrant that you can experience the humorous and lively atmosphere there and also introduce yourself to varieties of local crafts and delicacies. This easy moving around will get you readied up for the adventures that are lined up.

Leh is the capital of Ladakh, an Indian Himalayan region, and is a wonderful destination for people who have always been fascinated by something more than sceneries, such as ancient monasteries, a rich culture, and a mix of eastern and western architecture. Leh, at 3,500 meters above sea level, serves perfectly as a base for exploring the breathtaking surroundings. The local market is very vibrant, selling from local handicrafts to jewelry and local cuisine, so one can get a glimpse of the quite unique Ladakhi culture.

Day 02: Acclimatization in Leh

Day of Discovery in Leh:

You can spend the day easily by enjoying the rich cultural and natural wonders of Leh. These will accustom you to local weather and let you know your way around the town. Get to see the many monasteries as well as the old temples built in and around Leh, which provide insightful glimpses into the religious life of this region. Day 03: Drive to Chilling Trek Chilling to Skiu

  • Trek from Leh to Skiu:

    We shall start the day by driving from Leh to Chilling. Here, we shall cross the river and start the day's trek through the snow-covered Markha Valley, which will take us some hours along the winding mountain trail and bring us into the beautiful Skiu village. You shall spend the night in homestay at a local's house, getting to see, taste, and experience a bit of local hospitality.

    Trek along the spectacular scenery of Markha Valley, known for its views and tranquil environment, from Chilling to Skiu. Skiu has an attractive village feel that provides the authentic glimpse into Ladakhi life and it is surrounded by grand mountains and the peace of nature.

Day 04: Skiu to Sara

  • Trek from Skiu to Sara:

    A healthy breakfast will prepare us for a trek from Skiu to Sara. Here in this picturesque landscape, in the long stretches on the frozen Markha River, you have time and space to let the surroundings and the atmosphere of that place sink in. It probably will be one of those moments that you will always remember while trekking. It's a night at Sara with a cozy homestay, warm welcome after an exciting day of trekking.

    Today's trek from Skiu to Sara is the highlight of your journey in a beautiful winter landscape, kind of a rural wonderland. Walking along the Chadar, the frozen surface of the Markha River, you will be surrounded by breathtaking scenery, offering you a unique perspective of the winter beauty of Ladakh.

Day 05: Sara to Markha

  • Trek from Sara to Markha:

    Breakfast will be followed by the trek from Sara to Markha. Enjoy the beauty all around you while moving to the village. The sparsely populated track really increases the serenity and sense of nature. Keep an eye open to see some unique wildlife here. You will be staying at the comfort of a homestay in Markha overnight and fully embracing local culture and hospitality.

    Today's trek takes you into Markha, the biggest village in the Markha Valley and namesake for this beautiful region. Renowned for its pretty views and traditional Ladakhi culture, Markha lets you glimpse rural life of this magical place. Less populated, the winter trail is full of natural beauty; if you are lucky enough, you may see elusively elusive snow leopards.

Day 06: Markha to Hunkar

  • Trek from Markha to Hunkar:

    We will continue our tour on foot from Markha to Hunkar after breakfast. The route along with beautiful scenery of the valley unfolds raw beauty before your eyes as you move along. Towards Hunkar, quietness and isolation of that little quaint village can now be felt. We would be staying overnight in an otherwise warm homestay in this place, relishing at local hospitality, thinking and pondering over the good journey of the day.

    Hunkar is the last village in the Markha Valley that is inhabited in winters. The remote village, situated in a serene haven of beautiful natural settings, presents itself as an ideal adventurous but peaceful retreat. The next stretch of the valley would be even colder and quite picturesque.

Day 07: Hunkar to Markha

  • Trek from Hunkar to Markha:

    Breakfast will be followed by a trek back from Hunkar to Markha. As you walk the familiar trail, observe the views unfolding around you, perhaps noticing details that passed you by on the way in. On reaching Markha, take some time and reflect on your journey; you will have ample opportunity to be once again immersed in warm hospitality from your homestay for an overnight stay.

    Today, we move back to Markha, and it is now possible for you to see the fantastic scenery from the other side of things. As you return, the same trail will be another opportunity to see the scenery of the Markha Valley, but this time, crossing over peaceful surroundings.

Day 08: Markha to Skiu

From Markha Village to Skiu:

After breakfast, we will trek from Markha back to Skiu. Enjoy the scenery and serenity of this place while appreciating the views, crossing the same path that you would have taken towards Skiu. It’s going to be a good day to pass amidst all the natural beauty in your vicinity before reaching Skiu. On arrival, you would be sleeping in your homestay tonight, as you continue to enjoy the memories of your trekking adventure amidst this heavenly winter wonderland.

Today is the last day we are trekking into that beautiful ice landscape of the Markha Valley as we make our way to Skiu. The section you went through some days back comes back again with a reverse perspective—an experience to absorb one last look at the scenery and peace prevailing in the entire region.

Day 09: Skiu to Leh via Chilling

  • Trek from Skiu to Chilling:

    We shall start our trek from Skiu after breakfast and return back to Chilling. From there we board our vehicles to return to Leh. This journey will take you through lovely scenery as a last view of the breathtaking surroundings. Upon our arrival at Leh, your trip closes, with memories never to forget for having explored this unusual territory. Have a safe journey.

    Well, today marks the end of your fascinating journey through Markha Valley. On the trek to Chilling, you will be treated once again with spectacular views and some time for reflection on your adventure through this winter wonderland.

Day 10: Departure from Leh

  • Final Day in Leh:

    Checkout from the hotel by 10h00. Take one last deep breath and reminisce of the fantastic experiences and breathtaking landforms you have enjoyed in Leh and at Markha Valley. Send us off homeward bound, or to our next destination—safe travels, and look for us again soon.
