MOUNTAIN BIKING IN SIKKIM
Why Mountain Biking In Sikkim?
If you want to ride trails in the great outdoors, a mountain bike is for you. Enjoying the grandiose view of the Himalayan Range while getting kissed by the fresh cool mountain air, can be really rejuvenating after venturing upon the rugged terrains on a two wheeler. Sikkim with its lush deciduous forests and mountainous trails has emerged as an adventurer hub of North- East India. The flora and fauna along with the true Sikkimese culture can be explored while cycling through the lush green hills and dale overlooking the awe-inspiring view of majestic snow capped Himalayan Range of Sikkim.

Day 01: Bagdogra - Gangtok (134 kms/4 hrs approx)
Arrival in Gangtok:
You will be met at Bagdogra Airport and driven by car to Gangtok, which is 134 km, a journey of about 4 hours. We shall make the mandatory check of documents such as passport and visa at Rangpo, on the border between Sikkim and Darjeeling. After that, you will check into your pre-booked hotel in Gangtok. Take a short bike ride in the evening around your hotel to acclimatize to the altitude. Overnight at the hotel in Gangtok.
Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim—a bright, vibrant town of mountains, culture, and lively markets. Situated in the Eastern Himalayas, Gangtok provides an exciting mix of modernity and tradition. Lush landscapes, monasteries, and the generosity of the people make this destination a perfect place to discover the natural beauty and adventure activities Sikkim has in store.
Day 02: Gangtok - Martam Village (35 kms/1363 mts)
Biking to Martam Village:
After a good hearty breakfast in the morning, you will meet your guide for a briefing to start your biking from the town of Gangtok 35 kilometers towards your stay at Martam Village. The ride takes you along scenic routes, stopping at the world’s largest and famous monastery in the Eastern Himalayas, Rumtek Monastery. This monastery was established in the 11th century as the seat of the Kagyu-pa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. On arrival at Martam Village, you will be treated to an overnight stay amidst serene surroundings.
Martam Village, with an elevation of 1,363 meters, is surrounded by greenery and beautiful landscapes. It allows one to look through the small town of rural Sikkim, complete with pretty little houses and a vibrant local culture. This place is great for nature lovers who can stay nearby various historic sites and attractions such as the famous Rumtek Monastery.
Day 03: Martam- Temi (34 kms/1448mts)

Ride to Temi:
We will ride to Temi after breakfast in the morning. It is a 34 km ride. The ride will be downhill till we reach Sirwani Bridge. In Temi, you can visit the beautiful Temi Tea Garden, which is famous for its exquisite tea that has captivated taste and fragrance. After discovering the garden and its surroundings, we will return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Temi is celebrated for its picturesque tea garden. The only tea garden located in Sikkim with an altitude of 1,448 metres has earned worldwide acclaim. On its 435 acres, the soil and terrain are gently moderate with a hill slope as such. It has spectacular scenery, very near Tendong Hill, celebrated the world over. Products coming out from here hold their good reputation in the foreign market, particularly for taste, flavour, and aromatic attributes of tea. Visitors can bear themselves in the lively landscape and understand everything relating to tea production.
Day 04: Temi Tea Garden - Ravangla (28 kms/2040mts)

Cycling Tour to Ravangla:
It has been said that one could choose the tea manufacturing process is available at Temi Tea Garden on morning. Later by the way of Damthang road 28 kilometers by route, we will cycle down to Ravangla. En-route Ralang Monastery built after the fourth Chogyal pilgrimage journey. The Karmapa blessed the site, and grains from Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet were seen by devotees on the ground of Ralang; thus giving it significance. The monastery was reconstructed from 1975 to 1981 and today remains one of the most sacred monasteries in Sikkim, under the tradition of Kagyupa. Upon completing our tours, we will check into a guest house for overnight.
Ravangla is a silent town, which lies at an altitude of 2,040 meters. The place is quiet with great mountain views. Ravangla is a place of spirituality, and Ralang Monastery here is one of the major monasteries with excellent Sikkim Buddhist history. It is full of greenery and has become the perfect retreat for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike.
Day 05: Ravangla - Tashiding (40 kms/1470mts)

Ride to Tashiding:
We shall ride after having a good breakfast towards Tashiding covering 40 km. The ride will be of a good downhill portion towards Legship, through which we would cover along the way. When we reach Tashiding, we'd check into a guest house and spend our night. This will give us a feeling of resting in a placid environment.
Tashiding is a serene village at an elevation of 1,470 meters. It has spiritual importance and presents very beautiful landscapes. It is the seat of the sacred Tashiding Monastery, from which one can view breathtaking hills and valleys. The place is full of culture and history, making it a perfect retreat for travelers who want to be in peace and touch nature.
Day 06: Tashiding - Yuksam (32 kms)

Visit to Tashiding Monastery and Journey to Yuksam:
We will visit the Tashiding Monastery, one of the most famous monasteries in Sikkim, located about 40 kilometers from Ravangla, this morning. This monastery was built in 1716 and is popular for its annual 'Bumchu' festival, wherein a barrel filled with holy water is opened, and the water level serves as a prediction for the coming year. We will be going further ahead to Yuksam from here, where we'll stay in a hotel overnight after visiting and resting to see the few ancient sites.
Yuksam is an old village located 32 km from Tashiding. It acts as the gateway to many treks and has been very important in the history of Sikkim as being the first capital. Further, the highly revered monastery of Dubdi is there in the village, lending a sanctified flavor.
Day 07: Yuksam - Pemayangtse (45 kms/2085mts)

Ride to Pemayangtse:
We leave after breakfast for a ride of 45 kilometres to Pemayangtse. The ride is a gradual climb followed by a drop vertically into the beautiful Rimbi Valley. We will stop to visit the sacred Khichepheri Lake with gorges, dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and fertile farmland. We will overnight at Pemayangtse in a hotel in the evening. This means that you will feel more easygoing and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Standing proudly atop an elevation of 2,085 meters, Pemayangtse boasts breathtakingly majestic vistas and rich cultural significance as well. A house famous for the monastery built so long ago—the only major monastery in Sikkim—Pemayangtse is known because it is surrounded by scenic villages, lush greenery forest lines, serene lakes with captivating views of the great Himalayas.
Day 08: Pemayangtse - Darjeeling (110 kms)
Darjeeling Tour:
Morning:
After breakfast, visit Pemayangtse Monastery with a spiritual ambiance. Then later, drive to Darjeeling. We will cover the 110 kms distance between Lachung and Darjeeling. Upon reaching, check into your hotel room. Relax for the entire day at leisure in the hotel. Overnight stay in Darjeeling.
About Darjeeling:
Darjeeling is known as the “Queen of the Hills.” A beautiful hill station located in West Bengal, it has breathtaking scenery in the form of tea gardens and great panoramic views of the Himalayas along with the vibrancy of the culture. Standing at a height of 2,042 meters, Darjeeling is very famous for providing one of the most beautiful views of Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. Its charming colonial history combined with a delightfully agreeable climate makes it a favorite destination for adventure and relaxation seekers alike.
Day 09: Darjeeling - Tiger Hill

Day in Darjeeling:
Start the day early, drive to Tiger Hill to see the most spectacular sunrise in the Himalayas. After this memorable visit, we will return to the hotel and visit the Ghoom Monastery that was built in 1875. This monastery is the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, which houses one of the largest statues of Maitreya Buddha, famously known as "the future Buddha." After our tour, you can have your delicious breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we will drive for another 10 minutes to reach Darjeeling Railway Station for a joy ride in the famous heritage toy train to Ghoom.
Thereafter, at Ghoom Railway Station, we will travel to our vehicle to tour the Himalayan Zoo where you can view the faunal life, such as Red Panda, black bears, yaks, tigers, and snow leopards in their real environment. We will also make a visit to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which is a premier training institution for mountaineers and has a museum that portrays Tenzing Sherpa's and Sir Edmund Hillary's ascent of Mount Everest besides other notable expeditions. We will also visit the Tibetan Self Help Centre, an institution that trains young men and women in traditional handicrafts and handloom of Tibet. The sales emporium is open for those seeking souvenirs. In the evening we will return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Another prominent view-point in Darjeeling, which people opt for to view those scintillating sunrises that throw warm colors of the sun-kissed Himalayan heights, particularly Kanchenjunga, is Tiger Hill. Located 2,590 meters above, it provides a panoramic canvas that captures the imagination of photo artists and nature lovers as it portrays its colorful dyes. On reaching this place before morning sunrise, first light, when the mountain presents its majestic beauty in the splendor of golden color with rays of the first beam of sun, will not also be missed.
Day 10: Darjeeling - Bagdogra (134 kms/4 hrs)

Departure from Darjeeling:
In the morning, we'll drive to Bagdogra Airport, which is a distance of 134 kilometers in approximately 4 hours. This is the last time you can enjoy the scenery of the region before you fly to your next destination. Have a safe journey.
As our travels end, we leave the magical hills of Darjeeling into the sunset. With beautiful views and rich cultural heritage, this hill station has been an excellent and memorable stop for everyone traveling on the route.
